The Hobart Streets vision

We want lovely streets that safely & efficiently move people, and not just those in cars.

We want choice in how we travel around Hobart. Walk the kids to school, bus to work in the city, scooter for lunch in North Hobart, ride to Saturday morning brunch, drive to the hardware shop on Saturday arvo, taxi or car share home late on Saturday night, ferry to Kingston Beach for a swim on Sunday.

Wider footpaths, better pedestrian crossings, bike lanes, fast frequent buses, street trees, safe vehicle speeds, and — of course — less congestion when you’re out in your car.

Hobart has been far too slow to adopt modern street & transport design. The plus side of this reticence is that there’s now a huge opportunity for improvement if we can change.

How can Hobart Streets help create this change?

  1. One central site for discovering all the street improvement projects around Hobart — no matter which of the various councils or government departments is involved. Whether it’s a project that is well under way or one that is still in the consulting & design phase.
  2. A way for people to find support for their campaigns & petitions asking governments to improve their streets.
  3. Somewhere Hobart residents can share their ideas for better streets.
  4. A place to read news and hear about events.
  5. A community for (hopefully) considered opinion & discussion.
